Win a Million Rand Holiday: Winner Announcement
OH WHAT A NIGHT!
Sun City, Saturday 30 January 2010… It was a night to remember for Iain Gore and his fiancé, Shiara Van Ast when they were announced as the winners of Sun International’s Win a Million Rand Holiday competition. They were awarded the incredible prize at an exclusive reception in the Crocodile Lounge at the Lost City.
The Million Rand Holiday Prize
The prize promises to be the trip of a life time for the lucky couple. Worth a million Rand, the grand prize includes 12 incredible nights of luxury: 4 nights in the Presidential suite at The Royal Livingstone Hotel in Zambia, The King Suite at the Palace of the Lost City and the Table Mountain Suite at The Table Bay Hotel in Cape Town.
Iain and Shiara will also experience feasts created by world renowned chefs, soothing spa treatments, fine bottles of French champagne, rounds of golf, a helicopter flip over the Victoria Falls, a chauffeur driven wine farm visit to Stellenbosch, an historic journey to Robben Island, an elephant back safari, lunch on Livingstone Island and dinner on the luxurious Royal Livingstone Steam Train. They’ll also have their own private butler assigned to them when they arrive at each of the five-star Sun International hotels, ensuring that all their needs are taken care of.
A Rags to Riches Weekend
Sun International pulled out all the stops to give the finalists a wonderful and memorable “Rags to riches” weekend. The fun began on Friday 29 January when each finalist was collected from their home. On the journey to Sun City they enjoyed a gourmet picnic basket and a bottle of French Champagne.
On Friday evening, a welcome party was held at the Shebeen located at the Motseng Cultural Village at Sun City Resort. The evening was lively and entertaining as the contestants got to know one another, regaling each other with stories and sampling the traditional feast of biltong salad and thick porterhouse steaks. There were even challenges to find the pool table champion.
The following morning the finalists enjoyed an indulgent breakfast in the Gold Room at The Palace. The finalists were treated to spa treatments at the Gary Player Country Club Health Spa or spent time interacting with elephants at the elephant wallow in the adjoining Pilanesberg National Park.
On Saturday evening, they all gathered in the African Suite at the Palace of the Lost City for pre-dinner drinks where they were welcomed by Ed Jordan, the MC for the evening. At the Crocodile Lounge overlooking the Lost City Golf Course they enjoyed a 5-course dinner and the evening provided a taste of how the rich and famous live amidst a sea of conversation and the tinkle of violins and laughter. Lidia de Atouguia, Divisional Marketing Manager for Sun International Resorts announced the winners.
The past couple of months have been a whirlwind of excitement for Iain and Shiara – they got engaged at Sun International’s Royal Livingstone Hotel in October last year and this was what put them in line to win the prize.
The winning couple were given the Palace’s African Suite for the night but they wanted to share their excitement and happiness and invited all the finalists back to the suite to celebrate their win. Shiara, a budding musician happily played the baby grand in the suite accompanied by Ed Jordon.
