Sun City 400Two of the eight events on the 2011 Absa Off Road Championship calendar, the Sun City 400 and the 4×4 Mega World 400, will be hosted at Sun International establishments.

“We value what has been a long and successful association with Sun International,” said SA National Off Road Racing Association (SANORA) chairman Richard Schilling. “The Sun City 400, which will take place on 29 and 30 July, is one of the most popular and demanding races on the Absa calendar. We are again looking forward to what should be a highly successful event.”

Sun City 400 to follow exciting new route

This year’s Sun City 400 will be competed over a brand new route. Off Road SA has found 200 kilometres of new roads which will add to the challenge of what is traditionally one of the toughest events on the championship calendar.

“We felt it was time to come up with something different,” says race director Adri Roets. “A lot of hard work went into finding new roads, but it has been worth it. The race has always been a tough event – this year will be no exception.”

Race headquarters, the designated service point and the start/finish will all be situated at Sun City. On 29 July, the 60 kilometre Donaldson Prologue, which will determine the race grid, will be run in the Bakubung area to the west of Sun City.

The main race on 30 July will be run over two loops of 200 kilometres each. The first 30 kilometres of each loop will follow the prolong route before traversing koppies at Mahobieskraal.

The route then swings further west towards Bapong and Tweelaagte before swinging north to Makgope. Competitors will then head south to Witrandtjies and back to Sun City via Mahobieskraal.

No charge for spectators

As always, the route will be spectator friendly with at least nine spectator points within approximately 25 kilometres of the Sun City resort. Public entrance to the start/finish, the designated service point and spectator areas will be free of charge. Spectator guides and other information will be available at race headquarters.
