Sun City will play host to one of the biggest events on the South African sports calendar this year, the prestigious South African Sports Awards

The Ministry of Sport and Recreation South Africa, under the leadership of Minister Fikile Mbalula together with the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture North West, SABC Sport and SASCOC, recently announced that this year’s award ceremony will be held on 21 August. The theme of this year’s event is ‘Today’s leaders, tomorrow’s legends’.

“Sport is without doubt one of the best examples of empowerment in South Africa, especially for women and people with disabilities” said SASCOC President, Gideon Sam.

“We need to honour and showcase our top sportsmen and women in order to give the youth of today and tomorrow’s stars a reason to dream and aspire to their own great sporting achievements.”

In what promises to be a world-class event following the temporary absence in the past two years, the Minister, Fikile Mbalula echoed Sam’s sentiments: “The Sports Awards are imperative. They are not only a platform for incentive and jollity for sport excellence, but a celebration of human triumph.”

The awards will be adjudicated across 16 different categories by some of some of South Africa’s premier sport experts, including Motlatsi Keikabile, Doctor Khumalo, Kass Naidoo and Shaun Adriaanse.

Categories include:

  • Administrator of the Year
  • Sportsman of the Year
