Born and raised in Cape Town, Lorcia Cooper started dancing at the age of 4 doing Ballroom and Latin American with her brother. She won her first competition at age 5 and went from strength to strength.

After matriculating in 1996, the ever ambitious Lorcia set her sights on a professional dance career. She was accepted into the North West Arts Council Dance Company where she assumed both student and, later, teacher and choreographer roles. During her stint at the NWAC she performed at various prestigious festivals including Dance Umbrella, Grahams towns Arts Festival, Arts Alive, Playhouse Women’s Arts Festival,Kora Music Awards and also the 1998 Prestigious World Latin American Championship to name but a few.  During her time with NWAC she was, at the time, the youngest nominee ever for the FNB VITA BEST FEMALE DANCER AWARD at the age of 19.

Lorcia decided to embark on a freelance career in 2000 when she was asked to represent South Africa in Berlin through her work in Faust, directed by Robin Orlyn.  She also performed in The Celebratory of ten years democracy tour to London and Switzerland representing South Africa. Upon return she dabbled in the freelance dance industry doing countless performances at corporate launches for Microsoft, Vodacom, Metro awards, Nike Women’s events, BMW, Coca Cola etc, sports awards.

Lorcia currently performs, teaches, choreographs and mc’s nationally. She was a judge on KYKNET’s dance reality show, DANS! DANS! DANS!, High School Musical Spotlight SA, hosts and choreographs for Cartoon Networks Culture Club, and choreographed on So You Thing You Can Dance.  Lorcia is best known for her role as Charmaine in ETV’s local soap BACKSTAGE, where she was a principal actor and the resident choreographer.  She also choreographed an ad for Top TV, as well as a Parlatones music video. She is currently on ETV’s Scandal!

It goes without saying that Lorcia is an admired celebrity, respected house-hold name and dance legend!  She is an avid believer in the upliftment and nurturing of our youth and making the difference.   Lorcia lives her life by……”Dreaming big is succeeding big!”. 

Join Lorcia at The Battle of the Giants, starting at Sun City this week!   Battle of the Giants is a dance competition that attracts South Africa’s hottest dancing talent to the Sun City Resort . This annual event is collaboration between Sun International and SADTA – the South African Dance Teachers Association – and has been in successful running for the last 22 years. Each year that passes sees the Battle of the Giants becoming hotter, more competitive, more impressive and more popular. Showcasing talent between the ages of 7 and 20-something, Battle of the Giants is an annual event not to be missed!

This annual event stands as a qualifying round for our talented local stars to compete in in their attempts to become one of the Top 5 dancers across South Africa. Being crowned as one of the esteemed Top 5 will give them the opportunity to compete internationally alongside global talent, while proudly waving the South African flag and showing what they’re made of.
