Koula | Springbreak DJ | Sun Cityon August 23, 2010
Introducing Charismatic Koula!
Koula has a vibey and addictive personality and describes herself as “a radio and TV presenter, running fanatic and lover of all things chocolatey”. Well let’s just say Koula is that and so much more – so be sure to catch her spinning the decks at Springbreak 2010!
Koula studied a Journalism Degree at RAU and while there, presented on RAU radio and Edgars Music Radio, which involved in store broadcasting. In her final year of studies, she put together a demo tape and sent it off to 5FM. The station believed she had potential and after nearly a year of submitting demo tapes, she landed herself a job as a DJ on 5FM– a week after her final exams! During her 7 years at the national broadcaster, she presented various shows such as the 5FM Top 40 on Sundays and the World Chart Show.
Back in 2006, fellow radio personality, Thabiso Sikwane from SAfm, challenged her fellow female radio jocks to run the Comrades Marathon. Koula was enthusiastic about the challenge, explaining, “We wanted to prove that ordinary people can run the Comrades. It’s not just for those who are genetically superior.” After her first “down” run in 2007, she was hooked! To date, she has completed 4 Comrades marathons and raised over R200 000 for various charities. Koula believes “one of our main purposes on this earth is to be of service to others” and has banned “fear” and “regret” from her vocabulary. Now that is girl power! Her active lifestyle doesn’t stop on holiday! She usually packs her running shoes with her when she goes away and believes it is a great way to explore new places. She has run through the streets of Paris, Rio and London and even the Andes Mountain range. Even though she has travelled extensively overseas, she still believes local is lekker, especially Stellenbosch, Knysna and George. Maybe this is because she is “a hippie at heart” so beautiful scenery and nature just does it for her.
Currently, she is a presenter on M-Net’s weekly entertainment and lifestyle show, All Access. This spunky DJ is well-known for her love of South African music and promoting the SA music scene. So if you’re lucky, you may spot her at a music festival or gig, scouting new talent. She is also a popular choice as MC for various events around the country, does freelance writing and is in high demand as a voiceover artist for radio and TV.
This lover of all things chocolate considers herself something of a foodie. She loves experimenting with different foods and creating her gourmet cupcakes, which she has made for friends birthdays and weddings and even supplied to a shop in Fourways! I think you will agree that Koula is one very talented lady, so be sure to catch this bubbly blonde heating up summer’s hottest party. Book your tickets to Springbreak now!
